How to fix it

The file carries an XMP metadata block, but it has no dc:title in it. XMP is the second place where a title is kept, next to the older document-information title. Readers and tools that look at XMP then find nothing to show as the name of the document.

In Acrobat Pro

  1. Open File, then Properties, then the Description tab.
  2. Type a title in the Title field. Use a name that tells a reader which document this is, not the file name.
  3. Save the file. Acrobat normally writes the title to both places when it saves; run the check again to confirm.

In Word, before you export

Open File, then Info, and fill in Title under Properties. In the export options, keep Document properties ticked, so the title goes into the PDF.

Good titles

This check does not judge whether the title is a good one; it only looks for the element. If the file has no metadata block at all, the check is not run.

How AxisRemedy handles it

Tested by the app. AxisRemedy tests this condition itself. For each document it records passed, failed or not applicable, and for every failure the object and the page.

What the check covers

Reads the XMP packet for a dc:title element. Does not judge whether the title identifies the document. Not tested when there is no metadata stream.

Repairs that target it

Repairs are optional. The few that could change how a page looks, such as embedding a missing font, need your explicit consent.
