This is not the final website. It is a demo of the real tool working, made for Y Combinator.

How we count, and what we leave out

These numbers are read from the engine, not typed in. When the engine changes, this site is rebuilt from it.

The four statuses

Tested by the app
87 conditions. The protocol marks 87 conditions as machine-testable and the app tests all of them. Some checks are narrower than the protocol, for example a check that does not look inside every kind of font program; each condition page says what its check covers.
Left for you, with screening
31 conditions. Only a person can judge them. The app looks for signs of a problem and lists the places to look at, never as a pass or a fail.
Left for you
17 conditions. Only a person can judge them, and the app has no automatic screening for them yet.
No test of its own
2 conditions, where the protocol itself defines no test.

What this is not

A report that finds no failures is not a statement that a document conforms. It only says that the checks that exist found nothing. An independent validator such as veraPDF checks rules that this report does not, and a person is still needed for what no machine can judge, such as whether alternative text describes an image well.
